Haunting Your Yard
Equals, The “Creepy” Cooper Family, Shane, Dylan and Jodi
AKA, “The Halloween House” to all that know us.
We’re located in a quiet neighborhood in a town a few miles north of Denver Colorado. Halloween is one of our favorite holidays for many reasons. However, we’re mostly into Halloween for the “fun” factor. Here’s a few other reasons we’re known as the “Halloween House” in our neighborhood.
1) Birthdays, Shane’s Birthday is actually on Halloween and Dylans is just 2 days before on the 29th. Jodi, well, okay, her’s isn’t until December, but she’s close enough for a mention.
2) While we love Christmas, Thanksgiving and other holidays, Halloween is the one we have the most FUN! From thinking up creepy ideas, to building props, to playing tricks on guests, to just being a big kid, it’s the one time of the year that anything goes and everyone has fun.
3) It’s creepy and there’s a build-up to hallows eve, at least there is at our house. We add props and decorations to the front both large and small, subtle and not so subtle. All the kids in and around our neighborhood always stop by every day for a few weeks prior to Halloween to see the new stuff go in. It builds anticipation.
4) Did we mention, it’s just fun!
About this blog:
We get asked a lot about how we build the props, why we build the various props, where the ideas come from, where we store the stuff and many other questions. So, we decided to start a blog this year about all the things we’re planning for this coming season.
We’ve posted some breif shots and write ups on past seasons. Eventually, we’ll try and post full how-to’s step-by-step for each of the props we’ve done. Some were so elaborate, time consuming and done a while back, that we wont have the time to go into full detail.
Along the way, we’ll post about all kinds of things related to the season and plan on documenting the various new projects we tackle. As time avails, we’ll put together several “How-to’s” on various topics and discuss good ways to build haunts and props. We’re even planning on trying out some new techniques and adding new dimensions to the entire environment, so this year should be bigger and better than ever.
Our story:
We started out humbly years ago decorating for Halloween by carving some pumpkins and lining our driveway like luminaries, warm glows, creepy silhouettes and funny scenes. Since those simple beginnings, Halloween in our home has grown. We’ve gone from carved pumpkins, added a few props, started with a few tombstones, added garage scenes and now have a full blown graveyard, mausoleum and all.
We love sharing our Halloween fun with family, friends and neighbors. Each year we tackle a new theme and add some new props - all of which we make ourselves.
Look for this season to be even bigger and better!
